About Us

Shining Tree Tourist Camp. We are a Housekeeping Cottage Resort located on the shore of Beautiful Shining Tree Lake in the small Northern Ontario village of Shining Tree. Located midway between the cities of Timmins and Sudbury, we are easily accessible by paved highway, but remote enough to provide you with a peaceful, relaxing vacation.

Shining Tree is well known as the place to go for a complete variety of fishing opportunities to suit everyone's tastes. We will treat you as friend from the minute you arrive and do our best to help you get away from the turmoil of everyday life.

If fishing is not in your vacation plans, we have miles of bush trails for hiking, bird watching, ATV or just get away from it all.  For the rock hound, the Shining Tree area has a long history of mining activity. Explore old abandoned gold mines or search along bush trails for treasures for your rock collection.

Accommodations

Our cabins all overlook the shoreline of Shining Tree Lake. Hear the call of the loons as you relax in our clean, comfortable two or three bedroom housekeeping cabins.

We provide all bedding, linens, pots, pans and dishes - just bring your fishing gear and enough food to satisfy your hearty appetite that you're sure to have after a day in our wilderness area.

Forget some of your fishing tackle?  Our camp store has a complete supply of fishing gear and tackle to catch that big one.  We also \offer a complete range of bait, ice, souvenir shirts and sweats and snacks.

For your convenience, we have a 12' x 12' walk-in freezer available for our guests to use at no charge.  Plenty of storage space for your extra groceries, blueberries in season, or your week's catch of fish.

Fishing Locations

Shining Tree is located on Highway 560, midway between the cities of Sudbury and Timmins.  From Sudbury, follow Hwy. 144 north to Hwy. 560, then east on 560 approximately 30 miles.

If you wish to take a day off fishing, spend a day in Sudbury visiting it's major attractions. Science North, a world class science museum with hands-on exhibits for the kids and an IMAX theatre, or visit the Big Nickel Mine.  In Timmins, go underground to a working gold mine on a tour sponsored by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce

Types of Fish

Shining Tree Lake has a variety of fish to satisfy everyone from families to serious pro's. The lake is over 5 miles long, and has miles of rugged shoreline, islands, and hidden bays to test your skills.

Fighting Smallmouth Bass up to 5lbs. are common in the warm summer. Walleye and Northern Pike are the favorite in Spring and Fall.

If it's trout you're after, travel to any of the numerous back lakes to try your hand at Rainbows, Brook Trout, Lake Trout, Aurora Trout or Splake.  Many of these lakes are accessible by road, some by portage or fly-in
