Your stay at Blackfish Lodge can be tailored to your interests and schedule. Chris and Hannah Bennett, your congenial hosts and owners, are year-round residents of the lodge. You’ll be treated to great food and hospitality during your visit. Personal service is assured by the limited number of guests that we take and we will guaranty exclusive use of the lodge for parties of six . Individuals, groups of friends, business groups, and families are welcomed. Accessible by boat or floatplane, only, Blackfish Lodge is truly a place of seclusion, quiet, and contemplation.

Whether you're here on a salmon fishing trip or freshwater fishing trip, it all begins when you land at the generous dock and walk into the lodge. You’ll be greeted by the lodge’s lovely scent of cedar. Lunch will be on the table shortly. At the end of your day of fishing, you’ll come home to a genuine B.C. floathouse, and to the relaxed and personal atmosphere that defines Blackfish Lodge. The fireplace will warm, a glass of your favorite beverage will relax you, and our fine and sumptuous food will satisfy. You’ll drift off to sleep hearing the sound of water lapping outside your window---quietly aware that tomorrow will bring new angling delights.

Using red and yellow cedar from the nearby forests, Chris and local craftsmen milled the lumber on site and worked together to build Blackfish Lodge. The lodge is cozily heated by a woodstove and has solar power and a generator to provide electricity (we turn the generator off for sleeping). There is no TV, but wireless internet access is provided. Each private room has two beds and its own shower-equipped bathroom. There is also a kitchen, dining area, and a modest living room, all with spectacular views. We have an widely varied collection of CD’s, and an upright piano for those who like music during their time at the lodge. You’re also welcome to bring your own music (CD or cassette tapes) to set the mood of your trip. Finally, the lodge is wheelchair accessible.

Fishing Locations

Founded in 1989, Blackfish Lodge is a charming fly-in or boat-in floating lodge located in Canada, within the new Great Bear Rainforest preserve, about 30 miles east of the northern end of Vancouver Island. We're about 200 miles (350 kilometers) northwest of Vancouver, BC.

Combining the best of a British Columbia salmon fishing lodge, fly fishing lodge, and the ability to utilize spinning and casting techniques means fishing opportunities for all skill and experience levels. When you reserve your guided fishing trip with us there are no pre-set fishing hours, though an average day will include about 10 hrs. of fishing. We fish each day as conditions and your preferences guide us.Many people are curious about when is the best time for a fishing trip to Blackfish Lodge. The answer is that it depends on what you’d like to do. Click here for a description of our season.

A visiting fishing writer, describing one of our smaller streams wrote: ".....I nearly gasped! There before me was the most picturesque pool one could ever imagine...This spot will be recorded in my memory banks as the single most beautiful pool I have ever had the pleasure to fish.

Types of Fish

Our 100% catch and release streams, lakes, and rivers are, indeed, some of the most beautiful, productive, and unpressured waters you’ve never heard of. Our truck can take you to some fine lakes and streams on nearby Gilford Island. Fish small streams or bigger water, dry flies, or wet. Depending on the time of year, you’ll find yourself hooking summer or winter run steelhead, cutthroat trout, dolly varden char, a few rainbow trout, and chinook, silver, and pink salmon.

Millions of migrating salmon go through the bottleneck of British Columbia’s Inside Passage, and Blackfish Lodge is situated to take full advantage of the presence of these fish. Trolling is the method of choice and, year after year, our guests really appreciate how consistent our fishing remains. Our area is also home to some excellent BC halibut fishing—some spots are within just a few minutes of the lodge. Our largest halibut, which was landed in the 2005 season. topped out at 200 pounds!
